The green came out of the fire, not a paint pot.

The surface is carved so it radiates from the centre, then glazed in a kiln-transformation sage that gathers in the grooves and thins across the ridges. Where it pools it goes deep; where the carving stands proud it goes almost grey.

Wide and shallow — better for a few good things arranged than for a full dinner piled on.
